Steam locomotive Gp 3042 comes "home" to Småland again

The local branch of the association in Växjö has decided to take home the former SJ Gp 3042 from Anten-Gräfsnäs Järnväg in connection with the expiry of the current de-positioning agreement. In the near future, in-depth discussions will be held with TJF and FAS regarding the installation in Västervik and refurbishment of the locomotive.

The locomotive was built in 1943 by ASJ in Falun except for the tender, which was manufactured in Motala. After delivery, the locomotive travelled under its own power from Motala to Växjö, where SJ then used it in passenger and freight traffic on the Växjö-Hultsfred and Växjö-Oskarshamn routes. In 1972, the locomotive was taken over by the Smålandsspåret Association, which later merged into the Växjö-Västervik Växjö branch of the Smalspåret Association. In 1994 the locomotive was deposited at Anten-Gräfsnäs Railway.

President of the Association Mr Peter Christensen comments: - We are grateful to AGJ for taking good care of the locomotive during a time when it was not possible to have the locomotive standing in Växjö or Västervik. AGJ has also carried out major and costly work on the locomotive, and FSVV appreciates their commitment to getting the locomotive refurbished.

It is the association's hope that the locomotive will eventually become operational after more than 50 years in storage.
