Flaten to Gårdveda is our newest route which was first opened to trolley cycling in summer 2020. A shorter return trip of 12 kilometres.
The route starts at Flaten station which the association bought in 2017 and has since renovated and recreated the 60s design. In the waiting room you can see the classic ticket office before you pedal north towards Gårdveda.
The route offers a varied landscape with several lakes and watercourses as well as some sections of forest. Simply a miniature version of Småland.
Not far from the station house in Flaten you will find Bageri Björkaholm, which offers delicious home-made pizzas. Perfect to bring or perhaps enjoy after the trolley ride?

Good to know
In Flaten all trolleys are of the model with a chair on the side which seats up to two adults.

We offer several different trolley ride routes:
Hultsfred – Målilla
Cycle along lake Hulingen to experience passing through the pine forest before you reach the rest stop in Ödhult. From Ödhult the cycling continues towards the beautiful lake Hesjön where you can stop for a coffee break or a barbecue. The route is a maximum of 22 km.
Flaten – Gårdveda
Our newest route starting by the carefully recreated and renovated Flaten station. Peek into the waiting room before you set off north along a varied landscape with lakes, meadows and forests. The route is a maximum of 12 km .
Virserum – Åseda
Cycle from Virserums station and experience the historical grounds of the Dacke War as you pedal past old cultural landscapes and beautiful lakes. Do not miss the beautiful station environment in Virserum with a nostalgia kiosk, phone booth etc. The route is a maximum of 53 km.
Åseda – Virserum
The same route as Virserum to Åseda but starting in Åseda. Here you will find shops, cafés etc. so make sure to buy refreshments for the trip before you cycle up towards Hultanäs and then on towards Virserum. The route is a maximum of 53 km.
Cycle a trolley on the Flaten – Gårdveda route:
A wonderful nature experience that also suits those who do not want to cycle very far. Flaten station is the association's latest addition to the line of beautiful station environments that have been renovated in the 50s/60s style. Visit the waiting room and experience the nostalgia before you get on your way north to Gårdveda.
This is our very newest route which opened in summer 2020.
0 km: Before you set off, make sure to visit Bageri Björkaholm which help rent out the trolleys on the route. They also offer coffee baskets as well as more substantial alternatives such as pizza. You can also get everything in a gluten-free version. A bit south of Flaten you will also find kafé tre systrar which we thoroughly recommend.
1 km: On the first section from Flaten you will pass through an area with summer houses and you will experience beautiful lake landscapes along the railway.
3 km: You will pass Sandlid and with that we leave the lake landscape behind and enter a section of forest. If you are lucky you may see a deer or two.
4 km: The landscape starts to open up and turns into more sandy grounds with lots of pine forest. We are now in the Emån valley which you can tell by the flora and fauna.
6 km: Welcome to Gårdveda, a former railway junction with the possibility of going in four different directions. Today what remains of the railway is the route north towards Hultsfred/Västervik and south towards Virserum/Åseda. It was previously possible to travel to both Vetlanda and Målilla from here.
