When the war took the train

Follow the story of how Germany occupied Denmark and Sweden during the Second World War. Sweden was never taken, but instead 2.2 million German soldiers took the train through the country and the German armed forces sent 100,000 wagonloads of war material through neutral Sweden.

The transit through Sweden during the Second World War was secret for a long time, but then the archives were opened and the old documents reveal so much that was previously hidden. The book takes you into the story of what was under the tarpaulins of the freight wagons and tells of Germans who travelled first class when Swedish soldiers were allowed to take a seat in cold freight cars.

The book was published in March 2021 and the author is Jan Bergsten.
