Help us build a railbus garage in Virserum<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Our railbuses are, as we all can understand, not helped by being exposed to the elements all year round. In order to break the rate at which they deteriorate the association has started a large construction project to get them indoors. May we present project railbus garage?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The image showing an idea of the project has been produced by Lignarium snickeri, the company which will construct the building. We have now started the project after having received a confirmation from the municipality and are now seeking different types of grants to help with funding.<\/p>\n<\/div>

The fact that our railbuses are outside in the rain and snow is of course not good and something we have been aware of. Now we have finally found a solution. Some of you members have helped out in the last years when we have painted our railbuses.<\/p>Peter Christensen, chair of the association<\/em><\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

On the empty grassy surface next to the old Centralfo\u0308reningen towards the direction of the station building in Virserum we will therefore erect a railbus garage. The garage will have two railway tracks in parallel and be about 50 metres in lenght in order to fit three railbuses. As it is to blend in with the environment which also is listed, it will be built in a classic manner and be clad in red-painted wood panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The actual frame, roof and some other things will be built by Lignarium's skilled carpenters, but we will have the opportunity to do a lot ourselves to save money. Tasks you can do with limited prior knowledge could be, for example, painting red paint on the railbus garage until summer 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Project status<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

2022-12-23:<\/strong> The building permit is ready. Ground works are expected to start in the meantime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2023-06-01:<\/strong> Inspection trench poured, earthworks completed. A deeper excavation \/ lowering of the site towards the first level, which made the work a little more expensive \/ delayed, but gives the advantage that the railway yard is not lower than the rail bus garage<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2023-08-23: <\/strong>The roof trusses have reached Virserum from the manufacturer, they have been manufactured locally in Sm\u00e5land outside Vetlanda. Work on the foundations\/plinths can begin and then the actual frame can be erected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2023-11-15:<\/strong> Track work is underway before winter sets in, earthworks are complete and ground plinths have been placed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2024-04-14:<\/strong> One track has been completed and macadamisation will take place shortly. Construction of the second track will start shortly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2024-08-01:<\/strong> Both tracks are completed and sleeper replacements on the future access track\/interchange are ongoing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2024-11-10:<\/strong> The frame has been erected and the roof trusses will be started as the next step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2024-12-20:<\/strong> Roof trusses erected and roof installed<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2025-03-18:<\/strong> Panel mounted on the building, remaining gates and connection of tracks, and indoor lighting<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2025-10-04:<\/strong> Ground works completed, track works started on the connecting track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2025-11-27:<\/strong> The gearbox is lifted into place in its correct position, before the outdoor track is connected to the garage.
